I use my iphone screen to map out these little drawings. I don’t love how often I use my phone, but I love how often I use it as a tool. The rectangular screen is used for the scale, and sometimes as a lightbox. The hundreds of thousands of photos stored within it’s folders are where I find my inspiration. The first time I tried this technique I was on late night flight, examining the dim brightness of my screen through a sheet of notebook paper. It was really fun to discover I could draw under such dark circumstances. I became so absorbed in my work, I escaped my surroundings. I experience so much of my life through such a small frame, where the past feels infinite in the palm of my hand. It feels good to embrace it.
